Wondering if you could let us know, if the issue is fully resolved, or if there is a chance of it happening again? |
Yesterday, the iptrace indicated that the end server was no longer responding, therefore a network card or hardware problem. The issue has been resolved, we can thank those who worked on its resolution and thank for this free service. |
I had hardcoded their api in my app and the whole app went down for many hours. Definitely not doing that again. Glad it's back up though. |
I saved data from the api to a table that my app uses. Now what I do is:- Create a temp table from the existing table - fetch data from the api- check fetched data and if all good- truncate and update my rates table That way I always have data in my table, and I have the temp table as a fall back if things ever go sideways. On Sep 23, 2023, at 1:07 AM, justinekatebe ***@***.***> wrote:

Is anyone else still having issues accessing the API? I'm getting error messages like Wondering if the https://apilayer.com/marketplace/currency_data-api?live_demo=show endpoint is based on the exact same data? |
@jaypinho Well this seems like what happened: Now it requires API keys and has pricing plans as well :(. |
Yes. Is there a free one out there?
Also can't use https unless you pay too. Free is useless

I dont mind having to sign up and no ssl but why have they changed all the parameters! |
Seems like exchangerate.host got sold to APILayer. Without prior notice... I know, it was free but to announce that the API will be switched off in X days would have been the least @arzzen. |
https://api.exchangerate.host/convert?from=EUR&to=GBP&amount=100&access_key=key |
They have also changed the parameters and the json returned is different - just tested with free api key - you cannot change the base currency without paying now as well. |
Yes we are facing this issue too, in fact after endpoint changes and error after buying licences, we decided to switch to Fixer.io that has quite same endpoints, and also json reply are quite the same. |
Not sure what's going on with the ownership / pricing change. If you just visit api.exchangerate.host in your browser, it redirects to https://apilayer.com/. But if you actually hit the exchangerate.host API it returns a JSON response that includes links to https://currencylayer.com/terms and https://currencylayer.com/privacy. 🤷 I guess we get what we pay for? (Which in my case was $0, so I can't complain, I suppose.) It was a nice API while it lasted. EDIT: I'm still testing, but API Layer's free Fixer API (https://apilayer.com/marketplace/fixer-api#documentation-tab) seems to have identical functionality and works? |
Well, seems like this is yet another free exchange rate API service that apilayer broke after buying them out (the exact same thing previously happened to ratesapi.io and exchangeratesapi.io). I understand that this was free but I have no idea why do you expect anyone to trust you, if as a company that supposedly specializes in APIs, the first thing you do after buyout is breaking it (the new one doesn't even seem to have compatible endpoints). I sure as shit won't be touching anything that apilayer offers. |
anyone else looking for a new free one this one seems to work ok and supports changing the base currency and also historical lookups - which I needed I now put all rates looked up into a local database and cache them to remove reliance on the api as much as possible. |
I've written my own code which fetches data directly from the European Central Bank Website. |
Hello :) "https://app.freecurrencyapi.com/register" does not work anyway (cannot be reached - error message. Any can help? |
This one looks promising: https://github.com/fawazahmed0/currency-api |
ok, but I am a very beginner and need to fix my Power BI. Till now I was using that from API. I also had the json script to connect: How can I do that now, with above link? |
@MTomasz7 So far I've been using the Fixer API and it's mostly worked OK (using the exact same API response structure as the exchangerate one did previously): #236 (comment) |
