Perhaps it will help somebody. If you have a Nvidia card and Ubuntu 24.04, there is one caveat with Xwayland. Ubuntu 24.04 has Xwayland 23.2.6 which doesn't support explicit sync. If you want flicker free X applications, you need Xwayland 24. It can be simply achieved by downloading Xwayland package from Ubuntu 24.10, extracting it manually and copying Xwaynd binary to /usr/local/bin.
Hopefully Xwayland 24 will make it to backports for Ubuntu 24.04 in the future, this may be used as workaround in the meanwhile.
