So I'm running the game on Linux, and I just got a copy of doom3 to play for the first time. Now my laptop is a bit old, so I don't want to play on max graphics settings, but every time I set them to medium and restart the game they go back to ultra.

Any clues?

My fps is only 10 when I run the game at ultra at 1600:900

Same issue here on a low-spec laptop with an Intel i3-7100U CPU Intel HD 620 graphics card running Ubuntu 24.04 . dhewm 1.5.3.
Any graphics/gpu options I set get reverted to default once I close the game.

@DarthRevan501st I worked out what this is - you need to delete the autoexec.cfg and DoomConfig.cfg in the "base" folder. The dhewm3 binary seems to be looking at all configs rather than just looking at the dhewm3.cfg in the "My Games/dhewm3" folder causing a conflict. Delete those files and it will only look at dhewm3.cfg

I know this is already mentioned in the wiki/faq but it would be good to make it a little clearer @DanielGibson

It doesn't execute all configs, but it executes autoexec.cfg, just like original Doom3 did.

With a default installation (gamedata from Doom3 CDs or Steam) autoexec.cfg doesn't even exist, unless you create one yourself (or copy it there from some other place than a Vanilla Doom3 1.3.1 installation).

Oh I'm terribly sorry. I didn't realise I needed to close the issue.
