Docs - it is very hard to tell what this library does

I think having some more examples on the homepage of the README / docs would go a long way.

I read through a bit and still am not exactly sure what this library does nor why it is better than the strawman approach. I suspect there's challenges in this general space and so this smells useful but I can't put my finger on it precisely.
