Hey Tom! Thanks for bringing the matter to attention.
Could you please help me understand this though. Thanks! |

I've just read through the document (and will be leaving comments here). My first impression was that it was an excellent reference for a lot of issues that we will likely face now and in the future, and I was slightly concerned that it might get lost/closed in Issues. Even in the (very negative!) scenario where we didn't go down this route, I think that a lot of the content can serve as as a very useful reference for other topics in the future. Could you possible repost the material in Discussions (sorry!) where we can upvote and pin it for future work. (With that bit of housekeeping out of the way) Some hacking around with Something that I didn't see mentioned is whether a REST server is something that we absolutely need (although perhaps this might have been considered out of scope, which is fair). For example, I have seen @kislerdm and @blythed mention gRPC elsewhere. I don't have any strong opinions or experience here, but it's something to keep in mind, to make sure that we are all in agreement. I personally found the 'Taxonomy' snippet that you produced in the 'Proof of Concept' blob helpful for thinking about this (but again, I don't really have much in the way of opinions to offer here). Overall, the 'How' seems a sensible way forward for me, with enough breakpoints included that we can fire the escape pod at any point if things start to look a bit hairy. Nice writing. |

Greetings, personages of SDDB.
I have an issue up that's a proposal for a "typed" REST server, and it's here: #605
I still have some reservations about Pydantic, as it's been a bit funky, so a discussion seemed useful.
Even if you have seen this document before you should look again, a lot has changed and I've filled out some parts.
