Summary

Mods "Add more goblin fruits to XE"

Purpose of change

Goblin fruits are nice but they could use some variety. This is why this PR will triple the amount of goblin fruit variants.

I also noticed that non-elemental Fae cannot create goblin fruits, so I'll give them a way to do so.

Describe the solution

Add the following general goblin fruits:

The fruits:

Fizzy fruit (restores 500 mana when eaten)

Unnoticeable fruit (grant a stealth effect for a short bit)

Heavy fruit (high-caloric & high vitamin. Very heavy)

Soothing fruit (grants the effects of prozac, thorazine and Xanax. Non-addictive but will still cause negative stim)

Melodious fruit (gives a mutation that gives an integrated activated music player. The mutation vanishes after a few hours)

Mirror fruit (temporarly improves all combat skills by 2 levels)

Camouflaged fruit (temporarly improves all crafting skills by 2 levels)

Bitter fruit (makes immune to knockback, slowdown and stuns for a minute or two)

Evasive fruit (massively boost dodge, dodge chance, evasion and ranged dodge for a few seconds)

Vein-filled fruit (recover blood. Doesn't increase how much stolen blood a vampire has)

Dazzling fruit (erupts in a blinding flash of light when eaten. Produces as much light as a heavy-duty flashlight)

Rotating fruit (reveal the nearby overmap within 15 tiles)

Pulsating fruit (gives the adrenaline effect as if the adrenaline bionic was activated. Taking it while under the adrenaline effect refreshes the buff)

Understandable fruit (gives a focus modifier buff for a while)

Pupating fruit (causes a big mood penalty when eaten and spawns 2-3 random goblin fruits. Can spawn pupating fruits. Contains a lot of the bad food vitamin)

Patchwork fruit (tastes incredibly good)

Pristine fruit (never spoils)

Numbing fruit (gives a temporary numb mutation for a short time)

Whispering fruit (summon a few allied shadows for a few minutes)

Recoloring fruit (heals player on their next wake up. Need to fall asleep then wake up for the effect to happen. Eating more than one will increase the total healing, at the price of potentially wasting some healing)

Fractal fruit (causes safe but random 5-10 range teleports every second for a few seconds)

Sticky fruit (allows to climb up and down for a hour or so. Doesn't reduce fall damage)

Pressurized fruit (give a small STR boost that grows more and more as it runs out. The buff starts at 1, grows by 1 every 6 seconds and lasts a minute. Eating another before the first runs out resets the buff)

Balloon fruit (Grants a carry weight increase for a few hours. Weights almost nothing.)

Boring fruit (resets morale to zero when eaten)

And the following fruits, that can be gained through the mysterious fruits or through casting the spell as the corresponding Fae type:

The fruits:

Arvore: Mud-covered fruit (makes traversing the wilds easier. Stacks with similar effects)

Ierde: Cavernous fruit (reduces speed but increases armor)

Homullus: Arguing fruit (boosts persuasion, lying and intimidation)

Salamander: Urchin fruit (shoots a volley of randomly-targeted heat beams when eaten. Cannot ignite anything but only injures hostiles)

Sylph: Rushing fruit (grants a small speed boost that scales with how high your z-level is. No effect if underground)

Undine: Sapphire fruit (grants a resistance to low temperatures and to cold damage)

Selkie: Weeping fruit (causes rain if eaten during mundane weather. Doesn't stack with itself and has no effect during anomalous weather such as portal storms)

Brownie: Shy fruit (eating it grants a minor unobserved crafting speed boost. This stacks with similar effects)

Trog: Remolding fruit (eating it will mend a broken limb and restore some of its health. No effect if the eater lacks any broken limb)

Pooka: Furry fruit (eating it will make regular and mutated animals ignore you for a while or until you attack one of them)

Noble: Cloudy fruit (eating it remove dreamless from non-supernaturals. Eating it without being dreamless increments the dream counter. Eating it also gives a 3-month-long effect that prevents any more cloudy fruits from working while it's there. No effect on changelings, lilin, high-tier vampires, etc. This fruit cannot be obtained from mysterious fruits and casting the spell only has a low chance to give this fruit)

Also add one spell per non-elemental Fae type to create goblin fruits.

Their conditions:

Selkie: must be near water or under rain.
Brownie: must be unobserved (for now, far from NPCs will do)
Trog: must be underground or at night.
Pooka: must be close of an animal.
Noble: must be close of a NPC or Fae.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Making the goblin fruits behave as Nethack's potions.

Testing

  • The fruits work as intended.
  • Each Fae can obtain its exclusive fruit from its spell but not the other exclusives.
  • Mysterious fruits can give any fruit except for the cloudy fruit.

Additional context

Currently none.

Spell checker encountered unrecognized words in the in-game text added in this pull request. See below for details.

  • You must be inside and unboserved to call forth a goblin fruit.

This alert is automatically generated. You can simply disregard if this is inaccurate, or (optionally) you can also add the new words to tools/spell_checker/dictionary.txt so they will not trigger an alert next time.

Hints for adding a new word to the dictionary
  • If the word is normally in all lowercase, such as the noun word or the verb does, add it in its lower-case form; if the word is a proper noun, such as the surname George, add it in its initial-caps form; if the word is an acronym or has special letter case, such as the acronym CDDA or the unit mW, add it by preserving the case of all the letters. A word in the dictionary will also match its initial-caps form (if the word is in all lowercase) and all-uppercase form, so a word should be added to the dictionary in its normal letter case even if used in a different letter case in a sentence.
  • For a word to be added to the dictionary, it should either be a real, properly-spelled modern American English word, a foreign loan word (including romanized foreign names), or a foreign or made-up word that is used consistently and commonly enough in the game. Intentional misspelling (including eye dialect) of a word should not be added unless it has become a common terminology in the game, because while someone may have a legitimate use for it, another person may spell it that way accidentally.
